Americans generate over 200 million tons of municipal solid wastes annually. Currently, only 30% of this country's renewable materials are recovered for proper processing. Hence, approximately 167 million tons of renewable products are improperly dispensed each year. By failing to recover 70% of potential recyclable products, we are rapidly depleting our natural resources, occupying more landfill space, not to mention, damaging our environment.
Each and everyone of us must adopt into a greener living lifestyle before we reach an irreversible point. We must make a conscious and relentless effort to recycle efficiently. We want to make every effort to shift towards a more sustainable, energy-efficient society and economy that will endure the test of time.
Recycling is a real solution! It is the most effective action we can take to decrease the amount of recyclable waste we generate. Recycling means returning valuable natural resources back to remanufacturing and reuse. However, it will take more than just one organization, corporation, or government entity to effectively address this issue. It requires a collective effort from everyone to make a difference.
